Sarah Moss

Sarah grew up in Hopewell Junction NY and went to high school where her mom taught in Poughkeepsie. She then went to Siena College and ended up serving in AmeriCorps with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) at a local nonprofit which led her to many different types of internships all over the east coast. Her position with SCA exposed her to the world of environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation - and trail work, which she has loved ever since. Sarah then moved to Philadelphia for grad school, returning to the Hudson Valley after graduating. It was there that she stumbled upon the Jolly Rovers - at the community pool one day. Sarah was struggling to find a local outdoor community to volunteer with that aligned with her beliefs, so her parents introduced her to Artie, a founding member of the Rovers, and the rest is history!

Sarah officially became a Rover in 2020 and she has loved every moment of it. In her words, “While I have learned so much from the Rovers and have gained many technical skills, what I love most about being a Rover is the family I have become a part of. The Rovers care so much about the work we do, and the public for whom it is for, but we also care for each other. I think joining the crew during the pandemic really gave me a unique perspective of the Rovers and it is something that sets us apart as a trail crew.”

During the season, Sarah looks forward to applying new skills, teaching new Rovers, and just spending time with everyone. When she’s not with the Rovers she likes to spend time practicing yoga, hiking, rock climbing, and paddling where she lives in the Capital Region.
